Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) is inviting innovators to help improve the recovery of large Off The Road (OTR) tyres once they reach end of life.
Around 120,000 tonnes of used OTR tyres are sent to landfill every year.
These tyres are used in some of Australia’s most important industries: mining, agriculture, construction, manufacturing and aviation. At end of life, less than 15 per cent of these tyres are recovered and then recycled for use as a new resource, the remainder are stockpiled, buried onsite or sent to landfill.
Currently, limited recycling capabilities in Australia make it difficult to find meaningful recovery and recycling solutions for OTR tyres. This is due to known barriers, including onsite disposal, their location in regional and remote areas and the challenges associated with their size.
Tyre Stewardship Australia is inviting Australia’s brightest minds and enterprises to submit applications for funding and assistance to increase OTR tyre resource recovery and decrease the burden of waste for future generations. These funds can support practical commercial solutions in solving this challenge.
TSA encourages and will consider a range of models, project areas and proposals, as long as they can demonstrably contribute to reaching TSAs desired outcomes and objectives. Ideas may include but are not limited to:
